New Run – Pekka Hyysalo

Making the documentary is very important for Rovaniemi-based company Flatlight Creative House, and especially for director Miikka Niemi. Miikka was shooting a freestyle skiing film when Pekka’s accident happened right in front of his eyes. This ended both the shooting of the film and Pekka’s successful freestyle skiing career. Miikka says, “It’s really important to tell Pekka’s story. His positive attitude and determination will encourage everybody to push their personal limits.”

Five years ago, 20-year-old Pekka wanted to become the best freestyle skier in the world. His life and future plans were all about freestyle skiing. The story of this young man’s recovery from a brain injury inspired not just the freestyle skiing community, but others, too. In this documentary we want to show the last five years of Pekka’s remarkable turnaround, and talk about his future. We want people to see a side of Pekka’s story that they haven’t yet seen in the media. We have already shot a lot of material for New Run, but there are still many scenes to be filmed.

We would like you to join us on this journey, and help to make this documentary a reality. With the campaign at Mesenaatti, we will fund the screenwriting process, development, and post production of the documentary. Our plan is to make this film internationally renowned and an inspiration for all, and tell Pekka’s story from a different point-of-view.

By joining the crowdfunding campaign and spreading the word you will help us on our journey!

We warmly thank everyone for joining our campaign!

CROWDFUNDING FOR SCIENCE!

Quantum Arts Jam will merge art and physics in three different sessions. Together with the artists we will turn an equation into a painting and the Universe into a real dance.

“We are physicists, constantly asking questions. From time to time we do find answers in experiments, formulas, even theories. However, we imagine things we cannot always picture.

Mathematics is the language of physics, with which we tell stories that pictures hardly could. As universal as it is, our language is not spoken by everyone. That is why we need interpreters. That is why we asked for help from art. ”

Quantum physicists will work together with the artists in improvised jam sessions, with an intention of creating atmosphere that speaks the dialogical language of quantum physics and art with both of its form and content.

Wednesday August 12th 2015 at 4pm
Sibelius-museum, Piispankatu 17, Turku

Session 1: QUANTUM COMPLEXITY
Dr. John Good & Dr. Libby Haney
A dialogue between a crazy Irish quantum physicist and a fascinating London-based artist who was once a quantum physicist herself.

My Wondrous Journeys to the Faroe Islands, Ihmeelliset matkani Färsaarille, Mina märkliga resor till Färöarna, Mínar undursomu ferðir til Føroyar

Birgit’s Garden is an art photography book by Eija Mäkivuoti. Through photographs and short texts, a multifaceted story is told about the Faroe Islands, a hidden place no one happens upon by chance. The Faroese see their islands as one of the last, untouched paradises on Earth. In the midst of the Atlantic Ocean, chiseled by nature’s relentless forces, a people lives, immensely proud of their country and its 1,000-year-old history.

Both photos and stories are the fruit of Eija’s long-term photo documentary work and projects in the Faroe Islands. The book’s photographs were taken between 2008 – 2014. Through these photographs and stories a somewhat different view of the Faroe islands emerges, which digs beneath the surface. It is at the same time both a ballad and a many-voiced travelogue with, and it is also a tale about friendship, magical places, music and a spiritual home. These photos are interlaced with both serious and humorous micro-tales that give a deeper understanding of both the country and its culture.

The stories are written by Eija Mäkivuoti and people featured in the book. Through their own stories, those featured bring their own voice to the photos. The texts are in Finnish, Swedish and Faroese. The book also includes an English translation of the texts.

Graphic design and layout are by the graphic designer Pia Petterson. Urd Johannessen, who is from the Faroes, has written the epilogue. Petri Kuokka, who’s known for working with many award-winning Finnish photo books, has made the photo processing. The book is made and printed in Finland and published by Sprotin, a Faroese publisher. It is printed by Lönnberg, a printer known for their high quality art books. The book will be published in the Faroe Islands in July 2015 and in Finland in October 2015.

Funding

I have been actively collecting funding for this photo book but some part of the total funding is still missing. The total budget for this hand bound high quality photographic art book is closer to 20 000 €. The main idea behind this book is the thought of sustainability; quality over quantity – to make a high quality book that resists time and is not a disposable product. This also implies to the choice of materials, like hard cover, thread binding, durable and scratch resistant laminate for the cover etc.

The book is made and printed in Finland, hence also the higher production costs. The production costs include e.g. the content production and the graphic design, the costs for photo processing and CMYK-conversion, the costs for printing and binding, shipping costs, costs for information and marketing, costs for the different launching events in different Nordic countries (fees for performers, travel costs, equipment, service / events at least in FO, DK, FI) as also for distribution and other costs for making the book available in different Nordic countries (book distributors, shipping fees etc.) and other costs.

The goal for the crowd funding for this art book (and the prior mentioned costs) is 7000€. I will fund the remaining portion by grants and with my own money. The book project has received support from various funds and foundations (for part of the production costs and for artistic salary; they do not cover the entire project budget), e.g. from the Nordic Culture Fund, The Swedish Culture Fund in Finland, Eugène, Elisabeth and Birgit Nygrén Foundation, Mentanargrunnur Landsins (Faroe Islands) and the Letterstedt Association. Some of the supporters have promised to support the project by buying a few books, when it is published. Such are e.g. Tjaldur – the Friendship Association Finland-Faroe Islands and Tórshavnar kommuna.

Join me and help making a book that hopefully are still around after 30 years.

PLEASE, SHARE THIS PROJECT TO YOUR FRIENDS

Help me to spread the word about this photo book out there:

Stories from a magical place

Arriving in the Faroe Islands, the stewardess announces over the speaker: Vælkomin heim. Welcome home. The word for the world is heimur and it includes the word heim, home. I am extremely touched by this.

The Faroese ballads and the chain dance (kvæði), and music in all its modern forms are very important to the Faroese people. The Faroese are extremely proud of their thousand-year-old culture and this fascinates me. These sons and daughters of Norwegian Vikings, Irish Celts and countless other migrants are shaped to be simply beautiful people that still strive to live in harmony with the nature surrounding them. It seems to me that all these past centuries are alive and strong in every moment. It is an essential part of the present – you do not remember them, you live them.

The country’s breathtaking scenery and sea views are frequent subjects in my photographs – those grey and blue seas, the horizons. The most common landscape is grey, rainy or misty – sunny days are rare. The most beautiful light occurs in the morning or evening ‒ the blue hour, when everything in the world turns into magic. Then everything is possible.

My view of the Faroe Islands is shaped by my own experiences there and by what my friends have told me about their country and its culture. Faroese metal music took me there first and the music united us. I realize that time has passed and one thing has led to another. There will always be a next time to go there, always another adventure to embark on together; and if not, I just miss being there.

This photo book is a work of art. I have created it with people that are important to me. Through them I have become a little Faroese myself. Without them this book would not exist. These photographs and stories tell the tale of our journey together.

New Run – Pekka Hyysalo

(You can read about the project in Swedish and Finnish here) Some things matter, and Nils Ferlin managed to put a surprising number of them into cast-iron words in his poems. Reverberating with biblical turns of phrases, Ferlin’s poems bring up an unlikely set of heroes: tramps and vagabonds, freezing old geezers in the poorhouse, and the mystical beauty of nature. The record “Tigerbrand” is a tribute to Ferlin and a fresh, Finnish look at his poems. Perhaps we can help bring out the “Finn blood” that Nils claimed to have inherited. To do so, we have brought together some of the present generation’s finest Finnish musician from classical music, jazz, folk and pop. KUVA8-2
Life’s a circus, and we’re the clowns. Cirkus42 is a new project band consisting of singer / songwriter Petter Korkman, pianist Jan-Erik Mansikka, bass player / percussionist / singer Kaarle Mannila and guitarist Mats Nyman. After having initially chosen the songs to work on, we’ve fooled around with the music and let playful experimentation take us where it would. Now we have fourteen songs ready to mix. But we need your help to walk that final mile – please help us make “Tigerbrand” real! kuva jousikaiku-2
In addition to our core group, we’ve had the pleasure and honour to share our musical playground with several proficient Finnish musicians: Jouko Kyhälä (known among other things as the founder of the internationally renowned mouth organ quartet “Sväng”), Verneri Pohjola (one of Finland’s most renowned jazz trumpet players), Niko Kumpuvaara (one of the foremost accordion players in the world today), as well as the brilliant “Jousikaiku” quartet (Pasi Eerikäinen, Laura Airola, Mauri Kuokkanen and Riikka Lampinen). kuva girls The “Tigerbrand” project has brought together Finnish artists and singers from various genres and generations. Singers on the record are Riki Sorsa, Jonte Ramsten, Ida Olsonen, Jonas Sebastian, Elsa Korkman, Julia Korkman, Bella Jensen, Petter Korkman and Emma Salokoski. The pictures on this page are mainly by Heidi-Maria Karhu (thank you Heidi!). Finally, the music was recorded with a man who is often introduced as the best recording engineer in Finland: Speedy Saarinen. KUVA7 Most of the music on “Tigerbrand” has been composed by Petter Korkman, but the record also includes hitherto unpublished Ferlin-songs by some of the big names in Finnish songwriting and composition: Kaj Chydenius, Jussi Chydenius and Toivo Kärki. Special thanks go to Kalervo Kärki for digging out Kärki’s compositions “Tre dagar” and “I folkviseton” från the family archives. Thanks in fact to all who’ve shared this journey with us and made it possible. A big thank you also to Svenska kulturfonden and to Musiikin edistämisen säätiö. Now all that remains is to mix, master and print the cd. This is what we need your help for. Please help us raise the funds to finalize this chapter of Finnish and Scandinavian culture! Before you go, please listen to our second “single” from “Tigerbrand”. This is the song Cirkus, based on a poem that provided us with a name both for the band Cirkus42 and for the record “Tigerbrand”. The video was produced by Nils-Erik Ekblom and Petter Korkman, and the song is performed by Jonte Ramsten. Enjoy! Cirkus from TIUKU on Vimeo.

New Run – Pekka Hyysalo

Association of Samba Schools in Finland organizes the annual Helsinki Samba Carnaval ® with the help of volunteers and grants. To organize an event with no admission fee is challenging.

We need to pay for lease of the venue, salaries for security first aid and traffic control personnel, traffic signs, fences, electricity and so on. It is very hard to find sponsors with the state our economy is in, so we need your help!

The money raised by our campaign in Mesenaatti will be used to cover expenses that come from organizing this beautiful event that brings a tropical breeze from Brazil to the Nordics..With your support we will make sure that the carnival can be organized in the future as well.
So forget about the dull everyday life, choose samba and fund our carnival through Mesenaatti!

New Run – Pekka Hyysalo

Do a good thing today and support a charitable cultural center in Brazil!

Master of Capoeira Mestre Russo has a dream: to build a cultural center, which gives talented yet poor children of the Rio de Janeiro suburban area lessons in capoeira, music, dance, acrobatics, languages and international collaboration. For free!!!

The dream is alive. We are a global network of individuals and capoeira groups willing to make a contribution. Some of us have volunteered to participate in the construction works, some are ready to teach rhythm, music harmony, foreign language, dance and acrobatics. Some of us are spreading the word about the project and contributing financially. Every small contribution is valuable and important.

You too can help this dream come true. Choose your contribution & join us to make it happen!

pohja2

We want to renovate the existing building and build an additional wing including a room for capoeira, a small museum/archive of Afro-Brazilian culture, accomodation, a small kitchen and a hallway for photos and exhibitions. Later on we plan to purchase instruments and a video projector to show documentaries.

We are collaborating with the faculty of architecture of the University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). The architectural project has already started and will go on until mid 2016.

We are partners with Escola Cultural Zungu Capoeira (São Paulo, Brazil) as well with various mestres and hundreds of lovers of capoeira around the world. You too can be one of them, one of us!

Share the idea of the project with your friends and join the Dream Team!

A modest estimate about the overall expenses regarding the basic material is around 10 000 euros. This is our fundraising target by mid 2016. So there will be fundraising campaigns in future, too.

In this first phase we want to get funds for basic construction material, such as bricks, cement, wood, nails, plumbing, basic tools etc. We aim to realise this first planning and construction phase during August-December 2015. There are already many people signed up for the construction activities but there are still places left!

You can get more background information regarding the project and life of Mestre Russo by watching the video included here. Please follow us in Facebook and in the blog.

Give your contribution and join us to help children enjoy the wonders of capoeira too!

ATTENTION:

You may contribute anonymously too. Just write ”anonymous” when paying the contribution.

MeWe-mesenaatti-IhanaPeppu

So, is she Lovely Lisa, Ninja Mia, Noel’s Darling or Booty Queen? Or is he Super Simon, Mister Love, Bobby the Boxer? You decide, tell your story!

Gift hipsters and boxers are true eco-luxury. They are made of soft bamboo material which is ecological and very pleasant to use. These amazing Pimp My Booty gifts are fun & personal and of the best quality. They are designed & made in Finland and ecological & non-toxic.

How did it all began?

Pimp My Booty did not start from scratch. The roots of the idea strive from a little Helsinki-based business called Me We, run by two creative, ambitious youngish ladies Anu and Katariina.

Me We was founded in 2012 and its core idea is to offer high-quality gifts that customers can customize to be unique gifts. Me We’s ideology lies in ecological, ethical and quality aspects as well in creative and insightful design. The slogan “You Equal the Moon and the Stars” reflects our way of thinking: you are an individual, and important as such, but still an inseparable part of the universe surrounding us. You are a Me in We.

Personal Me We Gifts have delighted people already since 2012 and as we have curiously explored the market we found out, for example, that men usually find gift-purchases somewhat tricky. We decided to develop a gift that is easy to buy (online), sentimental and personal (what women LOVE), fun, high-quality & ecological (important for us, and for crescent amount of consumers nowadays). Ta-DAA! We developed underpants with love message!

MeWe-mesenaatti-Hipsterikuvat

In winter (2014-15) we started to test this crazy-fun love gift idea, and the men got excited about “behinds”. They found us from Facebook and started to type orders in. They REALLY got the idea, took chances and showed some emotions and ladies went nuts! Did we just invent a fun way for men to show emotions and praise their sweethearts? We believe we did.

MeWe-mesenaatti-Robin&Krista

Our small underpant-stock was emptied nearly every week and luckily our partner, 90-years old Finnish company called Tam-Silk, responded to our needs quickly and pliantly. We started to wonder, how many men there are in the universe that could appreciate this gift-idea (and how many women that would LOVE it) and we started to nurse the thought experiment of an international sales-channel that would serve romantics all around the world.

The idea about Pimp My Booty was born.

And Now Some VOLUME, Please

We have an excellent and tested idea, so how to grow and take this baby out? To do exactly that, WE NEED YOUR HELP. Be our funder and let’s take this unique gift service abroad and available for everybody!

MeWe-mesenaatti-Katariina&Anu

New Run – Pekka Hyysalo

We are bunch of people who have started an event, and a community, called Cleaning Day, in Finland. The actual event takes place two times a year. Thousands of people go all over the streets and parks and open up their own flea market stands. They mark them all on the Cleaning Day website. Then everyone else, hundreds of thousands of people, browse the stands on using that website, and go shopping. In general, it is just a very fun day.

Cleaning Day is also a 50 000 strong Facebook community, a media about recycling and ecological lifestyles, and a phenomena.

Here it is on a video in English.

And here are the instructions on how to do it in Your country.

Cleaning Day started in Finland in spring 2012, from a simple Facebook status update by a woman desperate to get rid of all of that extra stuff (basically her husband’s) around her home. She had no idea that this post would take fire as it did: after just one day thousands of people were already organizing a recycling event called Cleaning Day, and in two days it was already in the news. Someone volunteered to do a web service, someone else did the illustrations and logo’s, et cetera. It’s been a social movement, actually.

The first Cleaning Day took place on May 2012. Nowadays, Cleaning Day takes place twice a year, on the last full week of May on Saturday and on the last Saturday of August. Cleaning Day will be next organised on May 24th 2014.

The Crises

Okay, so it has been all great so far. We accidentally started a phenomenon, got the whole country out to the streets, got tens of thousands Facebook fans – and just, basically, had a lot of fund out there milling and shopping with just lots of nice people.

But: what started as a social movement with a lot of pro bono activities, is now too big to stay that way. The web service cannot handle the traffic anymore. So, during the past three Cleaning Days, the website has crashed on the precise moment when shoppers are opening it to go looking for some excellent secondhand finds on the Cleaning Day moment. It is so sad, really: so many people have their stands ready, and since nobody can find the information about their stand, nobody comes. We are so sorry, everyone!

Which is why we definitely need a new web service. It is a rather complex and heavy web service where sellers mark their stands and give a little bit info on what they are offering, and where shoppers can see where to go. It is essential to the Cleaning Day experience. We need it.

If this crowdfunding doesn’t succeed, we will have to go with the existing site. No need to be a be a psychic to know what will happen.

This is our Offer to You

1. Making it GLOBAL

Yeah, we are going to do an English language version of the site, with options for additional languages! Yeah, you can seize the moment and start doing it too!

2. Making it EVERYDAY

Okay, this is another idea: we are going to launch another thing called Cleaning Day Everyday. It is a web service where people can mark all kinds of flea market events: in the parks, at schools, fairs – and at homes! Yes, can you see this could turn into an all new piece of urban culture, with people hosting fun shopping events in their apartments, and we would all get to go to other people’s homes? This, plus the increase in all kinds of relaxed flea market themed get togethers in the parks and neighborhoods. Who doesn’t love a market atmosphere? This time with no ecological harm. So be in it!

Support us!

We think this is a chance for you too. So please help us with this website, and you will not regret! We now have an offer of circa 6000€ for the programming for the Cleaning Day website. With some 1000€ extra we get some other cool features. And, as with programming projects usually, some problem will appear, and we should be ready to put in another 1000€. And then there are maintenance and server payments for some 1500€. So our minimum sum is 9500€. And it is also the actual goal. Surely we would love to raise more, and make the web service even better, plus do more paid marketing for the event – but this is just about enough to turn on the programmers.

It can be done. You decide!

Rewards

  1. Your name on the funders list on the new web service and coffee at our office * 5 euros
  2. Support membership for our association Yhteismaa for 2015 & coffee & name on the list * 20 euros
  3. Star Seller – a special sign on the Cleaning Day map service, a Star Seller poster to display on Cleaning Day at your post, and presentation of all star sellers on our Facebook page before the next Cleaning Day, and name on the funders list on the web site    * 25 euro
  4. 50% discount in Fida secondhand stores for clothes until the 23.5. with no maximum purchase limit * 40 euros
  5. Dinner Under the Sky on the 6th of August 2015, tables, chairs, linen, dishes, everything ready for you outside in public space, and some entrees; you can bring main dishes for the common table  * 30 euros
  6. Your company logo and link on the funder’s page forever   * 500 euros

Help us with other means than money

Crowdfunding cannot succeed if people don’t find out about the project. Without big capital, the only way there is only one way for them to know: people share the message.  It is just as valuable for you to help spread the word than it is for you to be a funder. This is how you can help.

  1. Tell about this campaign in Facebook. Twitter and other social media that you use. Remember to include the direct link to this campaign page. If you know nice people who might be interested in the project, approach them and invite them along.
  2. Tell about the campaign to companies or organizations you are involved with; they do have a great opportunity to join people and gain great visibility with very modest costs. Challenge them!
  3. Tell EVERYONE about this crowdfunding campaign!

Here are some pics for the dessert, yam!

New Run – Pekka Hyysalo

GERMAN TEXT

Finnish eco-fashion label TAUKO will start to recycle German waste textiles!

The Helsinki-based eco-fashion label TAUKO will start to recycle German waste textiles. Radalla, the collection for fall 2015, will be made from German waste textiles, for You!

Waste textiles as raw material for TAUKO-collections

TAUKOs collections follow the tradition of nordic minimalism with a heap of baltic humor. Our principle is to support a sustainable lifestyle. All items are made from long-lasting and durable materials and feature classy yet interesting designs.

Since more than 3 years, TAUKO collaborates with Finnish textile maintenance companies to source materials for its garments. In fact, all our collections are made primarily from recycled health care, hotel and restaurant textiles: We dye the old textiles and print new patterns to them to give them a second life as high-quality clothes. After years of experience working with Finnish textile maintenance companies, we now want to show in Germany what we have learned.

KUVA 1

Local production for locals

We want to make the Finnish approach to ecological fashion known outside of Finland.

However, expanding outside of Finland for us means to also establish a local production. Therefore we want to transfer our production model from Finland to Germany while making it even better!

Our goal is to create a Germany-based production and reselling network that is based on regional work, local infrastructure and locally sourced waste textiles. In the Berlin area alone, the amount of health care textile waste is enormous. Those textiles are currently either only poorly or not at all recycled. Together with eco-certified and regional dyeing and printing houses which we already found, this gives us the opportunity to establish a regional TAUKO production for Germany.

Support us to make it happen

German waste textiles are already waiting for the production to get started!

This is the stage where we ask you to come along and help us to make it happen. For this occasion, we designed the bag ”Turn waste into beauty” to spread the message. It will be made completely from this material. Furthermore, items of our Radalla-collection, which are not available anywhere else yet, will be made from the first batch of German waste textiles.

You like the designs for yourself or for a friend? We offer you to exclusively pre-order the first Radalla products made from German waste textiles.

You have a service company? We offer you a selection of aprons that tell the story of recycled textile made from German waste textiles.

You are welcome to drop by at our studio to have a peek at the prototypes and samples of the Radalla collection and maybe even try on some of the garments!

You want to support us but you do not know how exactly? Why not purchase a gift card! It is valid for all our products that are available at our studio shop in Helsinki.

We offer consulting for Your company,  when you want to know more about using waste textiles as the raw materials of fashion production.

The campaign funds will be used for starting TAUKO production in Germany. Our minimum goal covers the costs of making the Turn waste into Beauty -bag and Radalla-collection first batch for the fall/winter 2015, aprons for restaurants and the  additional costs of Mesenaatti campaign:

  • Printing the Turn waste into Beauty bags: 720€

New Run – Pekka Hyysalo

My name is Mikko Keinonen. I’m a Finnish film director and culture enthusiast and I represent a group of people who want to help our friends in Ukraine in their artistic work.

Twelve years ago I got in my hands a demo by the Ukrainian rock group Myortvye Grushi (Dead Pears) and I was impressed and delighted by its quality and fresh creativity. After some unlikely incidents I ended up releasing their first album year 2004, because they weren’t mainstream enough to get a contract in their home country.

Now, eleven years later, Myortvye Grushi needs help again and I’ve gathered some of my fellow artists to support them.

Myortvye Grushi is preparing a new release but this time they have more obstacles than just a lack of a record company. Both their home town, Luhansk, and the location of their recording studio, Gorlovka, have become a warzone. Last summer two members of the trio, bassist-singer Vadim Zharikov and the guitar player Eduard Ivanov spent both six weeks in a cellar because of the bombings. They left Luhansk as soon as it was safe to move outside. The drummer Igor Mishenko didn’t wait for the bombs to fall but he left the country to protect his family.

Now Vadim and Ed are back home and they are continuing their art work with a new drummer. They are determined to finish their new album – or at least an EP – but it’s not an easy thing to do when you live in an area which is a constant target of bombs and granades.

We’ve started this campaign in order to support Myortvye Grushi to finish their newest release, Komiks tshesti. We are collecting money for the band so that they can pay for the studio in Ukraine, make their living through the recording process and have their new songs mixed in a Finnish studio.

In order to turn Myortvye Grushi’s art into cash we are making a re-release of their first album, Vily v bok! (2004) and their two latter albums Triobodrenza (2006) and Pod Vesyolim Rogerom kulturi (2011). We are arranging also a tour in Finland in May (dates and venues will be released in a few weeks).

Please help Mjortvye Grushi make their new album. Let’s make Ukraine also something else than just bad news.
