NAHJUS ENKELINI -elokuva

NAHJUS ENKELINI on kotimainen elokuvatuotanto, jota kuvataan heinä-elokuun aikana Tampereella ja Vaasassa. Tarina kertoo 6-vuotiaan pojan kasvutarinan taiteilijaksi, lyyrikoksi.

THE FILM

Curses echo at the Nummi crag when 15-year-old Pamu Hammer takes a long fall off the hardest route in Finland. ”You have to keep trying till your fingers bleed. You can curse, but you have to stay focused. You can’t get upset if it doesn’t go well.”

Cold Rock is a documentary film about a life style sport with deep roots. Up until the past few years, however,  it has been virtually unknown to the wider public. Finnish climbing began in 1954, but the diverse history of the sport has not previously been recorded in any form. At the moment climbing is one of the fastest growing individual sports in the country. Numerous recently opened indoor climbing gyms have resulted in tens of thousands of new aficionados, the most talented of which have become world touring professionals.

In the film we hear the stories of, among others, the first Finnish climber Matti A. Jokinen and the young talent Pamu Hammer. Matti’s story is as long as the story of Finnish climbing itself. It begins with a young man hitchhiking in Southern Europe and meanders through ground breaking climbing performances, serious injury, and finally to the present day, where Matti is seen at 81 years of age, still climbing. Pamu, on the other hand, started climbing in the 21st century, guided by his father. When his class mates focus on upcoming exams Pamu’s thoughts are at the crags. His main goal of the season is to climb ”Syncro”, the hardest route in Finland.

The voices of many other Finnish climbers from different decades are also heard in the film. This chain of climbers connecting Matti and Pamu forms the story of climbing in Finland. Cold Rock reveals the 60-year-old face of Finnish climbing: what kinds of stories and people does it involve? How has climbing become so popular in a country with no mountains?

THE DVD

Cold Rock has been screened in theaters and a shorter version has been aired on the Finnish national TV channel Yle TV2. NAHJUS ENKELINI -elokuva

Hello!

I am Mikko Pettinen, a trumpet player, singer, keyboard player, composer and an arranger from Helsinki. I have been a professional musician for over 20 years and played in dozens of bands, orchestras and vocal groups like Umo Jazz Orchestra, Helsinki – Cotonou Ensemble, Higher Ground Vocals, MP4, Nat Newborn Big Time and Kerkko Koskinen Kollektiivi. About a million people heard me in The Voice Of Finland television show last year.

I have recorded three albums with my jazz quartet MP4, which won the 1st prize in the International jazz group competition in Getxo (Spain, 2002), and an acoustic duo album with an amazing guitarist Teemu Viinikainen. I have also won the 2nd prize in the Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition in 2001 and played or sang on more than 100 albums (e.g. Redrama, Paleface, Mariska, Axl Smith, Higher Ground Movement, Kerkko Koskinen Kollektiivi, Asa, Anssi Kela, Antti Kleemola, Sandhja) over the years.

Still Happy – The Pasila Sessions

Mikko Pettinen & Happy People is my pride and joy, my own thing. I am the lead singer, keyboard player, trumpet soloist, composer and arranger of the band.

We have played about 20 gigs with Happy People and last year after a couple of very good festival gigs I had an idea to organize a studio live session with my band. I wanted to capture the energy and soulfulness of the live performance with a good studio quality sound. As a result we recorded 8 new tunes (7 originals of mine and my soulful rendition of the Ben E. King Classic Stand By Me) live in the studio in the Umo´s practice room in YLE´s (Finnish national radio) Radiotalo (Radiohouse) last autumn, companied by a small invited audience. At the same, all of the performances were filmed with professional video cameras.

I think we certainly managed to capture the magic on these sessions. The general atmosphere and the attitude between the musicians, the lightning guy, the sound engineer, the filming team and the live audience was truly wonderful!

A teaser from The Pasila sessions

We didn´t get any kind of grant for the session and there is no record companies involved; everything was organized by me for the love of music and for the passion and commitment I have for my music. Now I wish to publish this amazing material in a cd+dvd -package with your help. The campaign has three goals: the minimum goal is 3500 euros (cd), the medium goal is 5000 euroa (cd+dvd) and the maximum goal 8000 euros (cd+dvd+lp vinyl).

Happy People

Happy People 2015

The members of the Mikko Pettinen & Happy People are amazing musicians: great team players and extraordinary soloists. Happy People features a 4-piece horn section and a soulful vocal trio TriSis. On the Pasila sessions the original member of the TriSis, Jonnu Heikkilä, who also wrote the lyrics for 5 of the tunes, is replaced by an amazing Finnish soul singer Heini Ikonen.

“If our music will make you smile, we know our job is well done.”

– Happy People Theme (Everybody Get Up, written by Mikko Pettinen)

My compositions are combination of old school soul, funk, r&b, neosoul, jazz, gospel, pop and afrofunk and still have some Finnish ingredient on it. Some of my influences are Stevie Wonder, Tower Of Power, Earth, Wind & Fire, Steely Dan, Anthony Hamilton, Snarky Puppy and Jarrod Lawson.

Audiences´responses have always been enthusiastic and highly positive and supportive on our gigs. My debut album as a singer ”2Happy” has received dozens of very positive reviews and there are less than 100 copies of the cd-album left, but you can still get one as a campaign reward from here.

Mikko Pettinen & Happy People is:

Mikko Pettinen: lead vocals, Rhodes piano, keyboards, trumpet, flugelhorn
Janne Halonen: guitars, vocals
Sampo Tiittanen: bass
Jonatan Sarikoski: drums
William Suvanne: tenor saxophone, flute
Janne Toivonen: trumpet
Ilmari Pohjola: trombone
Timo Rantanen: baritone saxophone
Jepa Lambert: vocals
Heini Ikonen: vocals
Hanna-Maria Helenius: vocals, lead vocals with Mikko on Waiting (For My Change)

In addition to Live in Pasila session:

Markus Ketola: sound engineer, mixing, mastering
Heikki Kynsijärvi & Joni Laitinen: video production
Ville Pajala/DLS Entertainment: lightning design

The Goal

Our plan is to release all of the tunes as a cd and a dvd in the same package.

– If we will reach the minimum 3500€, we will release a cd

– If we will reach the medium goal 5000€, we can release a cd+dvd

– If we will reach the maximum goal 8000€, we will have enough money to pay for a promotion and release the music also as a vinyl and pay for the musicians who spent two very long days in the studio for free

Happy People

Why do we need the crowdfunding campaign for?

It is very hard, almost impossible to find a record company in Finland to release soul/funk music. The record companies release mostly commercial pop music in Finnish, yet Happy People’s music is not jazz enough for the small jazz labels (there aren´t too many of those either…). On the other hand, it is still too “pop” for the foundations that give grants for the art projects/releases. So my music is truly in the marginal and on the so called “grey area”. However, I believe that the most important thing about the development and the future of music is when the different styles and genres blend. That´s what happened in these sessions and I am really happy that we were able to do the sessions. I sincerely believe in my music and hope that it will make the world a little bit better place. Not to mention everyone wanted to do their best and even more at the sessions. So put on the good headphones, turn up the volume and listen to our videos and you´ll understand what I mean…

I truly believe that these sessions deserve to be released.

You can participate in a various ways:

1. You can preorder my cd for 20€ or the cd+dvd for 25€ with or without my autograph*
2. You can buy my 2Happy cd for 15€
3. You can preorder my cd or cd+dvd and get your name or your company´s name on the special thanks list on the cd and the dvd for 40€*
4. You can have your company´s logo printed on the cd+dvd package and on my website for 400€
5. You can order me to have a private gig at your party or at your house for 500€ (plus the travel expenses)
6. You can order my 5-piece Happy People Combo for the private gig for 2000€ (plus travel expenses)

* if we reach the minimum goal but not the medium goal, we’ll refund you the 5 euros difference

“Smoke smoke smoking!!!!!!!!!!!Please don’t call the firemen,Don’t dare to put water on this fire. Let it BURN, BURN ,BURN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
-a YouTube comment for the video “Happy People Theme (Everybody Get Up)

Thank you for helping me to fulfill my dream and supporting new Finnish music.

NAHJUS ENKELINI -elokuva

Turbojugend chapters spread across the globe – all the way from Hawaii to Tokyo – and there are over 1700 chapters now. ‘We just want have a good time all the time’ is a documentary of the Finnish chapters and members. Still, this isn’t merely a story for Turbojugend members. It’s a story for everyone who are interested in alternative music and culture and about the fact how these things bring together people around the world. That is we’ll include also a short segment of Turbonegro’s and Turbojugend’s history – told by the band itself and the jugends concerned.

Turbojugend members will obviously be the main stars of this documentary, but it will also include interviews of well known Finnish musicians like Ville Valo from HIM and Tomi Joutsen from Amorphis. Because we also want to have a scandinavian point of view to this story and some of it takes place at least in Oslo, Stockholm and Hamburg, there will also be some interviews with foreign jugends and musicians. Turbojugend activities and events are a major part of the phenomenon and the documentary will be following mostly Finnish events – including various sport tournaments, boat cruises, chapter anniversaries, etc. Every year the main event globally for Turbojugends is hosted by Turbojugend St. Paul in Hamburg during the summer. It is called Weltturbojugendtage and it gathers members around the world together to party for this week long period. The essence of Turbojugend can be found in the title of this documentary. Turbojugend brings together different kind of people who share the love for music and urge to enjoy life.

Filming of the documentary started in November 2015 and will continue until the end of 2016. The production crew is as follows: Jukka Pihlajaniemi (director/producer/editor), Jyrki Rahkola (co-producer), Tiina Hasa & EP Mäkinen (videography) and Jussi Kraft (sound editor). Everyone in the crew are either Turbojugend members or musicians. Pihlajaniemi has directed a lot of music videos and commercials. Rahkola is also the AmbASSador of Turbojugend Finland. So besides the vision this crew also has the contacts needed to give the documentary the depth and perspective it deserves.

The nature of the documentary demands a lot of travelling around Finland, Scandinavia and Germany. This is where your help comes crucial! This crowdfunding is essential for us to cover the travel and possibly some of the post-production expenses also. Your support will define the size of the crew and destinations we can include on the documentary. This an opportunity to help us create something that will last for generations and something that can entertain and serve as a positive example to people around the world!

This approx. 50 minutes long documentary will be finished and hopefully released on Q2 of 2017. Follow the progress of the documentary on Facebook and Instagram.

NAHJUS ENKELINI -elokuva

The ecosystems and cultures of the Arctic are beautiful and inspiring – yet at the same time fragile. We believe that we have a lot to learn from people living in the Arctic, in closer connection to the world around them. That the Arctic is so much more than just an empty, icy landscape – it is alive, fascinating, full of stories.

We passionately believe the Arctic is an inspiring place, and we want to share this with you.

So we put together this festival.

Like a snowball turning into an avalanche, artArctica festival is a small idea grown big: we’re now hosting photography exhibitions, installations, dance and music performances, feature films and short film selections – and we are lucky to have participants from every corner of the Arctic: Greenland, Canada, Russia, Norway, Finland, Denmark, the Faroe Islands.

In the final stages of production, we have come a long way – and now we need your support to ensure we produce a high-quality event, for both artists and audience.

We still need to cover certain travel expenses for the artists, as well as production expenses like printing large-format photographs and securing royalties rights for the films. By supporting this project, you are directly supporting grass-roots art-making in the Arctic.

We are lucky to be supported by cultural foundations and grants, as well as various independent groups and
organisations – and we need one last nudge, and that’s you. It’s the person we’re making this festival for: the
Arctic enthusiast (even if you don’t know it yet), the artist, the admirer, the traveller, the story-teller. You. We
need you, because without you our festival is just a private show.

So help us make this festival a beautiful and unforgettable get-together – and be part of something bigger. Whether you can visit the festival, or live far away, but think this is the kind of thing that is worth happening, you can support us in one way or another.

The festival is partly funded by Kulturkontakt Nord and Letterstedtska föreningen.

It is happening in collaboration with the following organisations:

Global Music Centre (FI)
City-Sámit (FI)
Walhalla Film (FI)
Finnish Arctic Club (FI)
Arctic Museum Nanoq (FI)
Skábmagovat Film Festival (FI)
Uummannaq Polar Institute (GL)

NAHJUS ENKELINI -elokuva

Jouduin routaiseen maahan hautaamaan naapureita.”

Olemme kiitollisia kaikesta saamastamme avusta. Laitetaan sana kiertämään!

Mistä dokumentissa on kysymys

On aikainen kevät ja tehtaan piiput puhaltavat paperisavua siniselle taivaalle. On hiljaista, ainoa ääni tulee tehtaan nukuttavasta huminasta.

Paikallishistoriotsija Hannu Ahlstedt

Kahtia jaettu kansa -dokumenttielokuva antaa äänen nimenomaan paikallisille ihmisille.

Voit kuulla osan veisua kampanjavideossa.

Similar beliefs and stories have also been known in other religions such as the Mari native religion. We want to bring these stories back to life through this documentary film, which will be fully subtitled in English.

Finnish native religion and mythology are one of the most compelling ethnic sagas in the world. Yet Finnish mythology remains quite unknown in comparison to, for example, roman or norwegian myths. We want to show our ancestors’ beautiful legacy to the world before it is too late.

“Through my work, I have always wanted to familiarize and promote Finnish mythology. I have wanted to bring it closer to people. The whole concept of Finnish mythology is incredibly vast, deep and enchanting. The Finnish myths have existed for ages and it is important to keep these stories alive in the modern day”, says A.W. Yrjänä.

In the heart of Finnish folklore, tradition and native religion is community. Through Ukonvaaja we can all be part of a community preserving these traditional beliefs that are still a part of our customs, celebrations and proverbs.

By participating in this crowdfunding campaign you can ensure that our children and children’s children remember these amazing stories!
