Nallekalenteri 2017 esittelee nallemaisia miehiä ja suloisia eläimiä. Iso voi olla komeaa ja tämä tulee esille tässä upeassa vuosikalenterissa.

Kalenterin ohella upeita miehiä ja suloisia lemmikkejä voi löytää myös julisteina ja kortteina.

Jokaisesta myydystä nallekalenterista lahjoitetaan yksi (1) euro eläinsuojelutyön pariin. Muu kerätty rahoitus kohdistetaan kalenterin painokuluihin ja myöhemmin tänä vuonna järjestettävän näyttelyn menoihin.

Haluan julkaista omakustanteisen, kovakantisen taidevalokuvakirjan, joka tulee koostumaan ottamistani surf-aiheisista valokuvista ja lyhyistä mietelauseista, jotka kuvaavat lainelautailijan mielenmaisemaa, ja tarvitsen tukeasi mahdollistaakseni hankkeen.

Meressä viettämäni aika on merkittävän suuri ja vuoden 2010 jälkeen viettänyt kaiken aikani aaltoja seuraten ulkomailla: olen valokuvannut surffausta niin aallokossa uiden kuin rannalta käsin, ja valokuviani on julkaistu alan mediassa kansainvälisesti. Nyt haluan tuoda kuviani esille myös Suomessa, jossa on kokoajan kasvava joukko surf -kulttuurista kiinnostuneita ihmisiä.

Suomalaisena lainelautailijana / surf -valokuvaajana itsensä elättäminen on luonnollisestikin haasteellista, ja riisidieetti on tullut itselleni erittäin tutuksi. Tästä huolimatta olen jatkanut valokuvausta puhtaasti rakkaudesta mereen ja aaltoihin. Toivon tämän yhteisrahoituskampanjan mahdollistavan työskentelyrauhan kirjahankkeen parissa, alkaen huhtikuusta 2016, kuuden kuukauden ajaksi. Loka- ja marraskuun aikana tulen valitsemaan kirjaan painettavat kuvat ja viimeistelemään teoksen. Kirjan laatu tulee olemaan huippuluokkaa ja sisältö painottuu erityisesti maisemaotoksiin täydellisistä aalloista kauniissa valossa.

Kirjaa painetaan pieni 100 kappaleen numeroitu ja signerattu erä, jonka saat itsellesi 99 euron hintaan kotiin postitettuna. Kirjasta tehdään myös pienempi versio (49 euroa/kpl), jotta kaikilla on mahdollisuus osallistua ja nauttia kuvasadosta! Kirjojen toimitusaika on joulukuussa 2016, ja kaikki rahoittaneet saavat rahoituskampanjan päätyttyä kuukausittain tervehdyksen projektin edistymisestä, sillä oletuksella että 2500 euron minimi täyttyy.

The ecosystems and cultures of the Arctic are beautiful and inspiring – yet at the same time fragile. We believe that we have a lot to learn from people living in the Arctic, in closer connection to the world around them. That the Arctic is so much more than just an empty, icy landscape – it is alive, fascinating, full of stories.

We passionately believe the Arctic is an inspiring place, and we want to share this with you.

So we put together this festival.

Like a snowball turning into an avalanche, artArctica festival is a small idea grown big: we’re now hosting photography exhibitions, installations, dance and music performances, feature films and short film selections – and we are lucky to have participants from every corner of the Arctic: Greenland, Canada, Russia, Norway, Finland, Denmark, the Faroe Islands.

In the final stages of production, we have come a long way – and now we need your support to ensure we produce a high-quality event, for both artists and audience.

We still need to cover certain travel expenses for the artists, as well as production expenses like printing large-format photographs and securing royalties rights for the films. By supporting this project, you are directly supporting grass-roots art-making in the Arctic.

Uusia ystäviä -group (ENG New Friends) was established on 25.11.2015 to Facebook based on “Looking for new friends” add made by Anne Palomäki. Uusia ystäviä -group was and still is meant for people that experience loneliness or are looking for new friends. Amount of people grew rapidly to 1000 and as days rolled by, all the way to the current 2300 people. Events were set up based on interests and one of the events was started by Maisa Ojanen. Event was meant for people interested photography and modelling. From this group formed up a team that is working on a charity calendar for year 2016.

Uskalla -calender 2016

Calendar “Uskalla” (Dare) tells about what we all should sometimes do: dare. We should dare to get excited, to dare to be inspired, dare to indulge in with an open mind to new things, dare to put between ourselves on the line and take risks and dare to be ourselves – just as we are. Calendar team decided to do just this: dare to do this project, even that the schedule was tight and we didn’t know each other beforehand.

Theme of the calendar is touch & closeness which every person should get regularly. Closeness usually is something else than physical, it’s friendship, companionship and feeling trust. With these goals in mind we chose our charity: HelsinkiMissio, which works towards getting rid of loneliness in Helsinki. HelsinkiMissio aims it’s work to people of all ages and they interview and train new volunteers all the time to work as support for a young person or a family mentor not to forget about morning phone which is aimed for people over 60-year of age. “Uskalla” calendar is done totally by volunteers and financing is gathered through crowdfunding (Mesenaatti) and also with possible support from business cooperation. In order for the calendar to reach its target audience we market it in Facebook, our own profiles as well as the projects own page, in all the articles and interviews about the “Uusien ystävien” group and by HelsinkiMissio in their own channels.

Calendar will be sold through a webshop and in some small shops in Helsinki. Profits after printing and delivery costs will be directed fully to charity. Profits per (1) calendar are estimated to be 10€.

You also have an opportunity to order outstanding postcards, which you can send out as a hello to a friend, cheer up lonely, Valentine’s day card or a birthday greeting! Awesome cards will be delivered as a package and the profits (5€ per pack) will be directed fully to the charity.

Idea of the calendar was put together in one evening and the team was together on the very next day. First pictures were taken within a week. Calendar was put together within a month. First envelopes and deliveries will reach your mailbox right after New Year. Let us all DARE to work for a worthy cause – TOGETHER!

I have traveled over thousand and five hundred kilometers in the west coast of Greenland by small plane, helicopter, cargo ship, oil tanker, sailboat, small fishing boat and dogsled. Along the way I have spent time in small settlements and joined overnight hunting expeditions, attended dogsled competitions, swam among the icebergs and learned few words of the local language Greenlandic. I have made ten excursions to Greenland and spent there from a month to two during each journey.

AVANNAA-BOOK

Avannaa is a selection of Itkonen´s photographs of Greenland´s landscape in 2002–2010. German publisher Kehrer Verlag has agreed to publish the book in autumn 2014 and it will be introduced in Frankfurt Book Fair and in Paris Photo.

Suomen yksi tunnetuimmista ja arvostetuimmista valokuvaajista tekee riemukkaan omaelämäkerrallisen keittokirjan. Tervetuloa mukaan Caj Bremerin ainutlaatuisen keittokirjan kampanjaan!

Caj Bremerin keittokirja on manifesti rehellisen ruoanlaiton puolesta. Idea sai alkunsa kuuluisan kuvaajan Facebook-postauksista, jossa Bremer jakoi ruokareseptejä kuvineen. Tarinat, reseptit ja kuvat kootaan nyt yhteen kirjaksi.

Viimeisen viiden vuoden aikana kotimainen rap on ollut monipuolisempaa kuin koskaan. Alagenrejä on runsaasti, ja yleisöä vielä enemmän. Suomessa tehdään tänä päivänä taideräppiä, ysäripastissia sekä träppiä. Räppärit käyvät Linnan juhlissa ja räppi hallitsee soittolistoja. Iso pyörä pyörii niin taiteellisesti kuin kaupallisestikin.

Kirjan kuvissa esiintyy yli sata räppäriä, valikoima tuottajia sekä genren muita vaikuttajia. Kuvien lisäksi kirja sisältää artistien kirjoittamia tarinoita keikoilta, bäkkäreiltä ja nauhoitussessioista. Kuvista käy ilmi, millaisella tasolla räppiä Suomessa nykypäivänä tehdään – vähemmän vitsillä kännissä heiteltyä horinaa, enemmän ammattimaista bisnestä. My Wondrous Journeys to the Faroe Islands, Ihmeelliset matkani Färsaarille, Mina märkliga resor till Färöarna, Mínar undursomu ferðir til Føroyar

Birgit’s Garden is an art photography book by Eija Mäkivuoti. Through photographs and short texts, a multifaceted story is told about the Faroe Islands, a hidden place no one happens upon by chance. The Faroese see their islands as one of the last, untouched paradises on Earth. In the midst of the Atlantic Ocean, chiseled by nature’s relentless forces, a people lives, immensely proud of their country and its 1,000-year-old history.

Both photos and stories are the fruit of Eija’s long-term photo documentary work and projects in the Faroe Islands. The book’s photographs were taken between 2008 – 2014. Through these photographs and stories a somewhat different view of the Faroe islands emerges, which digs beneath the surface. It is at the same time both a ballad and a many-voiced travelogue with, and it is also a tale about friendship, magical places, music and a spiritual home. These photos are interlaced with both serious and humorous micro-tales that give a deeper understanding of both the country and its culture.

The stories are written by Eija Mäkivuoti and people featured in the book. Through their own stories, those featured bring their own voice to the photos. The texts are in Finnish, Swedish and Faroese. The book also includes an English translation of the texts.

Graphic design and layout are by the graphic designer Pia Petterson. Urd Johannessen, who is from the Faroes, has written the epilogue. Petri Kuokka, who’s known for working with many award-winning Finnish photo books, has made the photo processing. The book is made and printed in Finland and published by Sprotin, a Faroese publisher. It is printed by Lönnberg, a printer known for their high quality art books. The book will be published in the Faroe Islands in July 2015 and in Finland in October 2015.

Funding

I have been actively collecting funding for this photo book but some part of the total funding is still missing. The total budget for this hand bound high quality photographic art book is closer to 20 000 €. The main idea behind this book is the thought of sustainability; quality over quantity – to make a high quality book that resists time and is not a disposable product. This also implies to the choice of materials, like hard cover, thread binding, durable and scratch resistant laminate for the cover etc.

The book is made and printed in Finland, hence also the higher production costs. The production costs include e.g. the content production and the graphic design, the costs for photo processing and CMYK-conversion, the costs for printing and binding, shipping costs, costs for information and marketing, costs for the different launching events in different Nordic countries (fees for performers, travel costs, equipment, service / events at least in FO, DK, FI) as also for distribution and other costs for making the book available in different Nordic countries (book distributors, shipping fees etc.) and other costs.

The goal for the crowd funding for this art book (and the prior mentioned costs) is 7000€. I will fund the remaining portion by grants and with my own money. The book project has received support from various funds and foundations (for part of the production costs and for artistic salary; they do not cover the entire project budget), e.g. from the Nordic Culture Fund, The Swedish Culture Fund in Finland, Eugène, Elisabeth and Birgit Nygrén Foundation, Mentanargrunnur Landsins (Faroe Islands) and the Letterstedt Association. Some of the supporters have promised to support the project by buying a few books, when it is published. Such are e.g. Tjaldur – the Friendship Association Finland-Faroe Islands and Tórshavnar kommuna.

Stories from a magical place

Arriving in the Faroe Islands, the stewardess announces over the speaker: Vælkomin heim. Welcome home. The word for the world is heimur and it includes the word heim, home. I am extremely touched by this.

The Faroese ballads and the chain dance (kvæði), and music in all its modern forms are very important to the Faroese people. The Faroese are extremely proud of their thousand-year-old culture and this fascinates me. These sons and daughters of Norwegian Vikings, Irish Celts and countless other migrants are shaped to be simply beautiful people that still strive to live in harmony with the nature surrounding them. It seems to me that all these past centuries are alive and strong in every moment. It is an essential part of the present – you do not remember them, you live them.

The country’s breathtaking scenery and sea views are frequent subjects in my photographs – those grey and blue seas, the horizons. The most common landscape is grey, rainy or misty – sunny days are rare. The most beautiful light occurs in the morning or evening ‒ the blue hour, when everything in the world turns into magic. Then everything is possible.

My view of the Faroe Islands is shaped by my own experiences there and by what my friends have told me about their country and its culture. Faroese metal music took me there first and the music united us. I realize that time has passed and one thing has led to another. There will always be a next time to go there, always another adventure to embark on together; and if not, I just miss being there.

This photo book is a work of art. I have created it with people that are important to me. Through them I have become a little Faroese myself. Without them this book would not exist. These photographs and stories tell the tale of our journey together.

Olen kuvannut elämääni 16 vuoden ajan, kuvieni pääosassa ovat muut ihmiset. Kuvaamalla pyrin tallentamaan omia ja ystävieni tunteita, havaintoja elämästä ja ihmisenä olemisesta. Haluni dokumentoida elämääni nousee tarpeesta tallentaa hetkiä ja luoda visuaalisia todisteita muistoille. Ajattelenkin kuviani enemmänkin perhealbumina tai kuvapäiväkirjana. Kirjassa esitetty kuvamateriaali on kuvattu vuosina 1997-2013.

Vuosia kestänyt projekti alkoi sattumanvaraisesti; Aloin kuvaamaan pikkusiskoani ja tämän ystävää perhelomalla hetkellä, jolloin olin tylsistynyt. Huomasin pian, että näissä kuvausten ulkopuolella syntyneissä yksityisissä snapshoteissa oli jotain todella kiehtovaa.

Kuvani ovat muistiinmerkintöjä siitä, mitä ympärilläni tapahtuu. Olen kuvannut kirjassa esitettyä materiaalia päämäärättä; kuvaan silloin, kun siltä tuntuu enkä tee tietoisesti kuvasarjoja.
Valokuva on minulle tärkeä väline kohdata oma olemassaoloni ja sen aikaansaamat tunteet. Se on tunteiden konkretisoimista ja asiantilojen muistiinmerkitsemistä. Kun esimerkiksi otan kuvan rakastamastani miehestä, minulla on todiste siitä, että me rakastamme toisiamme. Tämä saattaa kuulostaa oudolta, mutta minulle kuvaaminen on juuri tätä.

Valokuvaaminen on keino luoda jatkuvuuden tunnetta ja merkitystä omalle elämälle. Se on yritys rakentaa hajanaiselta tuntuva elämä eheäksi, tarinaksi, jossa on menneisyys, nykyisyys ja tulevaisuus.
Kuvatessa minulle onkin tärkeää tallentaa jotain todellista ja arkista. Eräs valokuvaajaystäväni sanoi minulle, että jotkut kuvani eivät juuri poikkea tavanomaisesta perhealbumimateriaalista. Tämä kommentti antaa minulle toivoa, että onnistuisin kuvaamaan jotain yleisinhimillistä oman yksityisen elämäntarinani avulla.
Maarit Hohterin valokuvateos Ystäväkirja tulee olemaan laadukkaasti painettu, nelivärinen, lankasidottu ja kovakantinen kirja, jonka sivumäärä on noin 200.

RAHOITUS

Valokuvakirjan kokonaisbudjetti on noin 15 000 €.

IN THE BOOK, 87 PEOPLE appear wearing the same polyester shirt Morrissey wore, when The Smiths played live in Seinäjoki, Finland, in June 1984.

It was a special concert. It was probably the northest gig the band ever did, and also one of the few Smiths gigs Morrissey describes in detail in his Autobiography (2013): ”I recall standing at the lip of the stage as if dragged from a river, the microphone slipping out of my hand, and no one around to caution how rain and electricity are deadly components to the overheated flesh.”

Antti Nylén gave the shirt a new life, and photographed all those Morrissey fans (mostly Finnish) in August 2014, in Helsinki, on 35mm black and white film.

The portraits will make a book, which will – hopefully! – be released in the winter/spring of 2015.

The project comments on fandom, identity, and corporeality as central elements of the ‘Moz cult.’

Will any other living pop star actually inspire 87 people to do something this silly?

In addition, the book considers some more theoretical issues on photography in general, and film pohotography in particular, i.e. its alleged ability to ‘capture’ something of the thing being photographed. Morrissey’s old shirt evidently, somehow, ‘radiates,’ but will this radiation be seen in the pictures?

And whose shirt it actually is, now, after all?

THE TITLE OF THE BOOK IS Paita – The Shirt (it has a minimal amount of text, but everything will be in English too). The book will be published by Savukeidas.

A photo book is significantly more expensive to produce than a book containing text only. Because the author works with analog materials, the original photos (black and white silver gelatine prints) need to be digitally reproduced for the book. Tuomo-Juhani Vuorenmaa, a specialist in professional photography publishing, will take care of this.

Book design will be done by Jorma Hinkka, a graphic designer and a long-standing photographic art enthusiast.

YOU CAN FUND THE PROJECT and purchase the book in advance by pledging 45 € via Mesenaatti.me crowdfunding site. The book will be posted once it is published (in the winter/spring of 2015). The sum (45 €) includes VAT and postage to any country. This is the only funding option available to international funders.

If you live in Finland, you can choose other funding options too, which include postage to Finnish addressess.

By funding 25 € you get the book, but numbered (from 61 to 260) and signed by the author.

With 40 € you get the book (numbered from 41 to 60) and an email invitation to the book launch party, which will take place in Helsinki in 2015 (when the book is released).

By supporting us with 60 € or 75 € you will get the book (numbered from 1 to 20 and 21 to 40), and a series of colour photographs, hand made by the author in RA-4 colour process. The three 9×12 cm photos in the series are closeups of the Shirt itself, and the series are numbered from 1 to 40. The 75 € option includes an email invitation to the book launch party, which will take place in Helsinki in winter/spring of 2015.
