FRESHCODE UNITY JAM 14.5.2016 & FOUNDING AN ASSOCIATION TO SUPPORT HIP HOP CULTURE IN TURKU

We’re organizing an all-day festival-like cultural event in the atmospheric and traditional venue of TVO  (Turku). The event has been organized by the same group in 2002 and 2003 and now it’s time to get up to date with the 2016 version. There has been a tradition of all-around hip hop happenings going on in the city of Turku since Mok Jamz Hopstravaganza in 1993 – and yes, part of the Freshcode team was involved back then.

The event will be focusing on hip hop culture and there will be music (live/dj/mc), graffiti/street-art (live), workshops (graffiti, rap, electric boogie/popping) and an art-exhibition showcasing the works and life of the passed away Turku based graffiti-artist known by the name UGH. The event is divided into two sections: Daytime event (Free entry, no age limit, 14-19 hours) and Night event (entry fee, age limit:18,  only 100 tickets available, 21-02 hours)

We’d like to highlight the event as positive happening with good vibes, positivity and working together. The aim is to bring people from different backgrounds and ages together and increase unity and interaction between people who are interested in hip hop culture.

The performing artist are some of the best in the country – some have gained international recognition. We’ll be showcasing both older, experienced talents as well as fresh new artist in all areas. The workshops will be open for the audience to participate.

The Association in the works

The aim of the Freshcode Unity Jam -event is to raise funds to build a non-profit association. The association is going to support cultural activities and share information

focusing mainly on hip hop culture (in all it’s forms) in the city of Turku.

We’re aiming to cherish the traditions and roots  of hip hop culture – as well as develop it further. We want to increase unity among people interested in hip hop culture, support and motivate artists and organize more events.

Members of the association will have the ability to help planning future events and take part in other actions of the association. Members also will have a fair discount to all future events organized by the association.

Here are some of the things that we apply funding for:

Founding and registering the association 150€

Materials for the workshops in the event 200€

Travel & food costs for the artist 350€

Materials for the UGH 1975-2013 -exhibition 200€

Materials to build a wall for graffiti 300€

Art supplies for the performing artists 300€

The effect of Mesenaatti.me funding campaign to our plans:

Minimum goal: We’ll be able to organize the event and get the association up and running / registered

Full goal: The association can start planning future events and actions right away

Both the event and the association are organized by Mikko Lehtonen (DJ Low De Rok) and Juho Toiskallio – both have been active in Turku hip hop scene for a long time.

We’re hoping that everyone interested will support us to achieve these goals and join in to work together for the culture!

FRESHCODE UNITY JAM 14.5.2016 & FOUNDING AN ASSOCIATION TO SUPPORT HIP HOP CULTURE IN TURKU

Heartwards is the debut album of the progressive rock band Order of the Living. The album was produced for many years and now it is finally ready. Jyväskylä-based independent record label Luova Records took the album under their wing and pressed a cd for promotion.

Our dream is to release Heartwards as a high-quality 12” vinyl LP. This campaign is built to support that aim. Also this campaign helps Luova Records to access their potential through financial support.

Heartwards is composed for the the vinyl format. Composer Jari-Matti Nurminen began the work for the album in December 2010. The album was given it’s final touches in the summer of 2015.

The vinyl format has been brought into the actual structure of the music. The first two tracks form the first half of the album. The second track “Heartwards” ends harmonically to the opening bass line of the first track “Language Hive”. The opening song of the secong half “Transformation” begins with a guitar line that takes it’s rhythm from the final passages of “Heartwards”, but the harmony is now transformed. This planned detail in the musical structure is in deep connection to the general concept of the album. The album projects a process of transformation; a change of state toward a more conscious way of being a human being.

Order of the Living is about to activate as a live group as well. Tickets to the concert are sold exclusively in this campaign. The concert will be held at the Pekka Ervast -temple in Jyväskylä. Few songs from the debut will be heard in the concert but the direction is towards new musical dimensions.

Order of the Living has been previously performing the classic minimalistic piece “In C” (1964) by Terry Riley. New material combines influences from this experience with elements from 80’s progressive rock, kosmische music and from more recent waves. The concert will be a fresh combination of meditativity, top-notch musicianship and catchy pop elements.

Support our journey and help us make this dream come true!

There are many interesting possibilities in the rewards section, through which you can find yourself delving into unique musical experiences. By supporting this campaign you support a generation of new artists who take their work kindly serious.

Suvilahti1

Around 2010 many skaters dream became reality when the city of Helsinki granted a 900m2 space for them to build a skatepark on their own terms. Construction started in spring 2011 right after the snow melted.

Suvilahti2

During these 5 years we have poured about 60 cubic meters of concrete. Many have learnt how to work with concrete within these thousands of hours and today some of us do skateparks around the world as their profession.

Suvilahti3

SuvilahtiDIY have hosted many international events and gained a lot of positive coverage on around different medias.

Suvilahti4

Non of the workers get paid so every dime goes to the construction materials like concrete, rebars, bricks and fillers. Please help us make this already wonderful park even better!

As a reward for your support we offer few different things like patches, scarfs and t-shirt (which last two are only sent to Finnish addresses, sorry). There is also possibility to get your name on our wall (graffiti) or on a skateable Tombstone which will be mounted ceremonially on our skatepark!

FRESHCODE UNITY JAM 14.5.2016 & FOUNDING AN ASSOCIATION TO SUPPORT HIP HOP CULTURE IN TURKU

Turbojugend chapters spread across the globe – all the way from Hawaii to Tokyo – and there are over 1700 chapters now. ‘We just want have a good time all the time’ is a documentary of the Finnish chapters and members. Still, this isn’t merely a story for Turbojugend members. It’s a story for everyone who are interested in alternative music and culture and about the fact how these things bring together people around the world. That is we’ll include also a short segment of Turbonegro’s and Turbojugend’s history – told by the band itself and the jugends concerned.

Turbojugend members will obviously be the main stars of this documentary, but it will also include interviews of well known Finnish musicians like Ville Valo from HIM and Tomi Joutsen from Amorphis. Because we also want to have a scandinavian point of view to this story and some of it takes place at least in Oslo, Stockholm and Hamburg, there will also be some interviews with foreign jugends and musicians. Turbojugend activities and events are a major part of the phenomenon and the documentary will be following mostly Finnish events – including various sport tournaments, boat cruises, chapter anniversaries, etc. Every year the main event globally for Turbojugends is hosted by Turbojugend St. Paul in Hamburg during the summer. It is called Weltturbojugendtage and it gathers members around the world together to party for this week long period. The essence of Turbojugend can be found in the title of this documentary. Turbojugend brings together different kind of people who share the love for music and urge to enjoy life.

Filming of the documentary started in November 2015 and will continue until the end of 2016. The production crew is as follows: Jukka Pihlajaniemi (director/producer/editor), Jyrki Rahkola (co-producer), Tiina Hasa & EP Mäkinen (videography) and Jussi Kraft (sound editor). Everyone in the crew are either Turbojugend members or musicians. Pihlajaniemi has directed a lot of music videos and commercials. Rahkola is also the AmbASSador of Turbojugend Finland. So besides the vision this crew also has the contacts needed to give the documentary the depth and perspective it deserves.

The nature of the documentary demands a lot of travelling around Finland, Scandinavia and Germany. This is where your help comes crucial! This crowdfunding is essential for us to cover the travel and possibly some of the post-production expenses also. Your support will define the size of the crew and destinations we can include on the documentary. This an opportunity to help us create something that will last for generations and something that can entertain and serve as a positive example to people around the world!

This approx. 50 minutes long documentary will be finished and hopefully released on Q2 of 2017. Follow the progress of the documentary on Facebook and Instagram.

FRESHCODE UNITY JAM 14.5.2016 & FOUNDING AN ASSOCIATION TO SUPPORT HIP HOP CULTURE IN TURKU

Hello!

My name is Teho Majamäki. I’m a musician, a multi-instrumentalist and a craftsman of music.

The years of hard work have brought me here, where I have finally released my first album for the world to hear. And the great journey continues.

The Background

When I was seven years old, I gave my friend’s new drums a try. Ever since that moment, I’ve found myself constantly connected to music. I’m addicted to the sounds of any given physical object when touched by the musician. Throughout my career, I have had the priviledge of working together with talented and highly creative musicians. During the past 15 years, I have travelled across the world gathering sounds for my fisrt solo release.

My recordings aroused the interest of several music industry professionals and as a musician I was trusted enough to be signed for a record deal in 2013. It seemed as if my dream of releasing a solo album was finally coming together. Then something surprising suddenly happened. My record label, the highly-regarded Exogenic Records, active since 1996, announced that they would cease all of their music releasing and publishing activities in 2015. This happened just as we had agreed upon the schedule for the release of my upcoming album. After discussing the situation with various music industry professionals, I decided to stick to the original schedule, and to try and fund the project with a crowdfunding campaign via Mesenaatti.

My travels in sound began in 2000 and took me through Australia, Tansania, Japan, India, Spain, and back to Finland again. This project, which started taking shape in my mind already during the 1990’s, is deeply characterised by my gratitude to all old and new friends who have given their best in helping me to put this album together. Dear friends, now it’s your time to help us take the next step.

Click here to watch the first video “One Thousand Names of God”

One approaches making music in the same way I approach life: A musician is an explorer on a quest across unknown territory in order to find something new, which hasn’t been heard before. I seek to express the constant state of flux so evident in life. The perfect moment appears and then quickly disappears. But the music captured in the moment remains.

The Group

I have played all of the instruments on this album myself, excluding the following:

Verneri Pohjola, trumpet (track 2, 3, 6), Ilmari Pohjola, trombone (2, 3, 6), Kari Hulkkonen, bass (1), Linda Fredriksson, saxophone (4), Jukka Orma, guitar (5).

I am honoured to have the following vocalists on board on the album:

Ismo Alanko, Ville Valo, Johanna Kurkela, Karri Miettinen, Hossni Boudali, Stina Koistinen, Linda Fredriksson, Jenia Lubich, Salla Luhtala, Kanata Okijima, Antonio “El Fofo” Salazar Heredia, Niillas Holmberg and Ulla Pirttijärvi.

Also including the following irreplaceable group of professional talent:

Editing: Tuomas Norvio

Co-writing: Samuli Laiho

Arranging: Okke Komulainen and Verneri Pohjola

Post-production: Samuli Kosminen

Mixing: Riku Mattila, Tuomas Norvio and Samuli Kosminen

Graphic design: Jussi Karjalainen

The stories heard in this music are a result of the various spontaneous encounters during my travels. They are love letters to the places, people and moments I have been lucky enough to meet. I think the most important thing in encounters between people is not its longevity but rather the sincerity and the genuine nature of the situation in that precise moment. It all comes down to the willingness to share something. I have a strong feeling that music is all around us, all the time. We can hear it if we only stop and listen. There has never been a need for a shared verbal language in these moments of creating music. Music is the very language understood and shared by all.

Tehon kuva

I very much wish that this music filled with the talent of many musicians dear to me would be made available for you and everybody else willing to listen. By listening my Travelogue album, you too can join me on a journey into a clay hut in a small village called Ifakara in Tanzania, onto a wooden pier in Lapland to heir the Sami art of “joiku”, into the Japanese suburb echoing the bright and joyous shouts of small children, into a temple filled with sacred mantras in India, and into the subtropic rainforests of Australia.

Every one of you can be part of this journey.

THANK YOU

Teho Majamäki

ps. You can follow the rest of the journey through my Facebook page and on the internet.

Ränginäk is a traditional Iranian delicacy that originally comes from the south of Iran where the date palms grow. The word Ränginäk means a tiny, colourful piece in Persian.

The magical combination of fresh Iranian dates, walnuts, butter and wheat flour topped off with pistachio, cinnamon and cardamom create these mouth-watering delicacies.

Three years ago when I baked Ränginäk for the first time for my Finnish colleagues, I couldn’t imagine it would become a turning point in my life. It has been by far the most popular product of our company and we have sold thousands of Ränginäks in different occasions in Finland.

“Iran keittiössäni – Tuhtia juhlaruokaa taatelista”
Helsingin Sanomat, Ruoka, 9.1.2014

The Dream

My dream is to make Persian cuisine globally well-known. It is a rich but little-known cuisine, which is full of tasty and nutritious delicacies. Ränginäk is the first step in this journey.

We are going to bring Ränginäk to the market as a regular product in the stores. In this stage our target is the Finnish market. As soon as Ränginäk lands safely on the shelves in Finland, we will start to distribute it in other countries in the EU. The third and fourth destinations of Ränginäk are North America and Australia.

For making this happen we need your support, wherever you are (but this time we will deliver Ränginäks only inside the EU).

You don’t have to wait to try Ränginäk, because we will send you a box of them as a gift once we start our production in Finland.
