The debute EP Home consists of energetic Scandinavian electropop, that addresses that feeling of returning home after a long journey, and of knowing that this is where you belong. Making my first own solo album without a record label has been a jump to the unknown. Full of new learning experiences and enthusiasm. I wanted to digress from the mainstream by doing pop music in English with a positive, heartfelt tone. The music expresses joy and innate strength, but with a hint of wistfulness and sensitivity. The symbol chosen for this project, a butterfly, symbolizes the long journey into becoming an artist. A journey of hard work, ten years of metamorphosis in my cocoon, seeking the right team, time and place. That time is now.

Singer / Songwriter Mia Renwall
The project is born on the songs made by Mia and more have been created along the way with Anni Mattila and Kalle Koivisto. Mia has had a long career as a singer and is now finally moving forward to build a solo career.
Costume designer and illustrator Suvi Matinaro
Suvi has designed and manufactured the clothing seen in the album cover and promotion material. In addition, she has created the wonderful handmade hair jewellery, on sale as Mesenaatti rewards.

Producer Kalle Koivisto
Famous for many known bands, Kemopetrol to name one, Kalle Koivisto brings his unique sound to this project. The most wonderful thing working with Kalle is that our senses of style work so well together, that if I’m looking to get a specific sound Kalle already has it readymade or can provide me with something even better.
Composer Anni Mattila
We met with Anni during the summer of 2013, and since then she has been of great support to me especially in writing lyrics. For example Invincible was born composing together with her in front of the piano. She has also been an inspiration and a mentor to me when designing the Mesenaatti crowd funding project.
Director and screenwriter Sanna Grav
Sanna has been integral in writing the screenplay and filming the video for the campaign, and has made it possible to tell the core story.
In addition to these people being incredibly dear friends to me, they are also masters of their own fields. So far they’ve supported my efforts without asking for pay. If we can manage to meet our campaign goal I’m able to repay their investment.
The album is published in digital format on December 19th 2014.
After the campaign succeeds the next goal is to have some CD and LP albums made with the funds.
Rewards
One night in the winter-spring of 2013 I was getting ready to go to sleep when the whole visual world started to become clear to me. I visioned a butterfly in the shape of a Rorschach inkblot test. I wanted to create a logo that everyone could interpret in their own way and that in on itself also carried artistic value. At first we tried to create one with the usual graphic design tools without satisfactory results. We decided to skip computer aided design, and Suvi started to play with ink and paper instead. In the end the right kind of a blot was created, and Kimmo subtly cleared it up digitally leaving it’s signature asymmetrical genuine look intact.
The butterfly has become a strong graphic logo that’s visible in both the album cover and the Mesenaatti rewards. The postcards included in the rewards adorn the butterfly and the logo is even usable as a decorative element fit for framing.
Suvi Matinaro has given artificial hair a brand new life by making them into hair jewellery. The rewards include hair accessories, bracelets and earrings. All jewellery is unique.

Songs
You can hear in the songs a theme of letting go, starting over, finding your strength and dignity, sense of community, loving and caring for yourself and your near and dear. The single Invincible was born in collaboration with Anni Mattila out of the desire to make a positive power song for the UMK song contest. We wanted to encourage people into being more communal and to support one another instead of competing against each other. The proverb “He who dares wins” has been used a lot to motivate people to fight for their rights, even using harsh methods. We wanted to turn it into a softer message: “He who cares wins”. Those who care for one another and take care of everyone’s rights for equality and peace will in the end win themselves. The song encourages us to believe that together we are stronger. That possibility is in this Mesenaatti campaign as well. Together we can make projects reality that might otherwise never be possible.
EP
The album has been under production since summer 2013. Part of the songs have existed in Mia’s desk drawer for years while others have been composed together with Anni Mattila and Kalle Koivisto. The song Clouds is entirely Annis work. The costs from recording and production have been kept as low as possible by recording at Kalles home studio. Only in the post production phase have we moved into a bigger studio. In December Henkka Niemistö will master the album at Chartmakers. I need your help in funding for these production costs and to cover fees from work already done by my team. In addition I want to have some CD:s and LP records made to be able to sell the album at gigs and to make it as concrete as possible. That is not possible without your support.
