Ammatinvalintakysymys – kirja työstä ja tulevaisuudesta nuorille

Millaista on kuorma-auton kuljettaminen, tubettaminen, opettaminen, musiikin tekeminen tai oman yrityksen pyörittäminen? Entä millaista on kehittää itselleen työ, jota kukaan muu koko maassa ei vielä tee?

Mitä jos hakee vuosia opiskelemaan tai unelmatyöhön, eikä pääse? Entä jos ei keksi, mikä se oma juttu olisi? Ja mitä sitten, jos omia juttuja on monia, eikä työ ole mikään niistä?

Kaikkea tätä Ammatinvalintakysymys käsittelee yhdessä 20–30-vuotiaiden nuorten kanssa. Valokuvaaja Kaisu Joupin kuvat vievät työn tekemisen paikkoihin: kirjastoon, toimistoihin, pellolle, luokkahuoneeseen, vastaanotolle, terminaaliin, kotisohvalle ja keittiöön.

”Mikä sinusta tulee isona” on aina ollut vaikea kysymys joillekin meistä. Kun työ, ammatit ja työn tekemisen tavat muuttuvat, on entistä useamman entistä vaikeampi vastata siihen. Ja vaikka mediassa käsitellään työn tulevaisuutta roboteista tekoälyyn ja globalisaatioon, ei keskustelua juurikaan käydä nuorten kanssa.

Kuinka moni meistä tulee tekemään uraa yhden työn parissa?
Miten paljon työ määrittää sitä, keitä olemme?

Ammatinvalintakysymys on rehellinen kirja valinnoista ja suunnitelmien tekemisestä. Se kertoo ennen kaikkea meistä, joista vieläkään ei ole tullut yhtään mitään, ja siitä, miten se on hyvä asia.

Joukkorahoituskampanjassa kerättävillä tuloilla katetaan kirjan painokustannukset ja maksetaan korvaus kirjan tekijöille. Minimisummalla katetaan paino- ja postituskulut, tämän jälkeen päästään bensarahoihin ja haastatteluissa tarjottuihin kahvikupposiin. Mitä useampi Läpy, Siivu, Kirja tai Sponssi (!), sitä pidemmälle päästään palkkioissa.

Kirjan ilmestyy syksyllä 2016.

The documentary project started from the want to undestand what it means to be socially excluded and marginalized in today´s success-driven society. For this we followed Finnish men between the ages of 20 and 30 who are living in the outskirts of Finnish welfare society. Some of the young men had dropped out of education, others had never started their studies. Working life seemed distant. The boys hoped to find something meaningful, but they didn’t know where to look for it, what to look for, and why.

Young inactive men are a recurring topic in Finnish mainstream media. In news reports, they are seen as a societal problem. We wanted to look at these men as individuals, to hear their voices and to see their everyday personal lives. We sat on their couches for dozens of hours and discussed. We  followed their lives and photographed them.

Along the way it got more than clear how stigmatizing, one-eyed and from top defined the whole concept social exclusion is. In the end the project became an universal research about finding your place in the world and the search for acceptance, love and yourself.

The book will be released both in English and Finnish in June 2016. It will be published by Raw View Books.
