”The hidden beauty of the desert” – photography exhibition of the Libyan Tuareg

“Tihoussay n tenere ta yfart – The hidden beauty of the desert” photography exhibition takes over the Cultural Center Caisa in October, bringing with it the spirit of the desert. For the first time ever a Tuareg photographer’s work is shown in Finland. Hussein Suleiman is a young, promising photographer from the Libyan desert and his photos will now have their premiere in Europe. He arrives for the exhibition from Libya, from a small town in the desert called Ghat.

With this exhibition we aim also to bring forth the current situation of the Amazigh in Libya, by giving a voice to a local artist. Libya’s Tuareg live in the southern parts of the country and their living conditions are extremely harsh, both climatically and politically.

Attached to the exhibition we will organize three events. During these events there will be a chance to participate in a discussion about the special status of the Tuareg women in their society, a Tifinagh workshop and a Tuareg evening “Sahara style”, including music and some desert tea. More details of the programs will be found from our website.

We are hoping to collect 3000 € which will cover the costs of the exhibition production, printing of the year 2017 calendar and good quality special program with musicians. With the minimum amount of 1000 € we are able to put the exhibition together, print a small amount of calendars and produce a program without musicians.
