EMO Ensemble

EMO Ensemble finds its wings and takes flight to Taiwan

EMO Ensemble, a highly esteemed chamber choir operating in Espoo and Helsinki since the year 2000, is on a mission to advance Finland’s choral culture, never shying away from musical challenges and always shaking up established beliefs. Since the spring of 2013, EMO Ensemble has been operating in an unusual way for a Finnish choir, bringing 3–4 fresh programmes to its home arenas of the House of Nobility (Ritarihuone) and Kallio Church every spring and autumn season.

EMO Ensemble now stands once again on the threshold of a new era for itself and for the choral world in Finland. During the 2014–2015 season, sopranist Pasi Hyökki, who has been the artistic director since the choir was established, will hand over responsibility for the choir’s concert planning to a new artistic committee. This will be an expert collective with a core formed by the choir’s section leaders. This will help the ensemble to find its own wings and gain its independence. Each concert will be led by a guest conductor invited by the committee, with Pasi Hyökki continuing on in the well-deserved position of principal guest conductor.

The recognition earned by EMO Ensemble around the world is evident in that it has been invited to appear at the Taipei International Choral Festival, to be held in Taiwan in the summer of 2015. Previously Finland has been represented at that festival by renowned ensembles including Rajaton and Club for Five. We need your support in order to reach this culmination point, as the choir will be financing its own trip to Taiwan!

Minimum target: The new artistic committee will become well-established and interesting guest artists will be invited to appear in the concert series for 2015.
